About the Directory

The objectives of the Directory are:

  • to raise awareness of the need to 'think local' and buy and sell locally sourced, sustainable food as much as possible, linking with a local Food Policy
  • to encourage people to purchase local produce
  • to encourage local outlets to buy locally sourced food where possible in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the food they sell
  • eventually, to produce a Directory of local outlets who meet the above criteria. This to be listed on this website.

We are starting small, focusing on Ealing Broadway, South Ealing Road, Northfields Avenue and Pitshanger Lane and including West Ealing Farmers Market. We have produced a questionnaire which we are using as a form of 'action-research' to find out what food/ingredients are sourced locally and what produce outlets could be interested in sourcing. We are also linking with local suppliers where possible.

We are working collaboratively with the Ealing Transition CSA (Local Food Sources) group and we are keen to have new people join us.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please contact me, Jan Baker on 020 8840 3849 or email janbaker@radix.wanadoo.co.uk.

Local Fish

The owner of local Northfields fishmonger Poisson, Simon Osborne, has written an article for us about his business.

We are very keen to feature articles from members of the local community in relation to local sustainability and resilience. However, such articles are the opinions of the writer and do not necessary reflect the views of Ealing Transition Initiative.
