Bumper September Calendar

This is the season of harvest and fruitfulness and so we have a number of food-themed events happening through September. These events offer opportunities to grow in awareness and to grow and learn about growing food directly as part of a community working together to develop our skills and mutual support. We hope to see you at these events!

Walpole Park Pop-Up Kitchen Garden Salad Day!
– Tomorrow, Sunday 5 September, 2-4pm

Ealing Transition Community Garden Group have currently been given care of this model vegetable garden in the rose garden area of Walpole Park. On Sunday we will be harvesting the freshest organic salads and veggies in Ealing. Come and collect your share and meet ETI!

Ealing Transition Community Garden Open Day
– Saturday 11 September, 11-2pm

You are invited to come and see what the Community Garden Group have made of a derelict allotment space since March this year. The plot is at Village Park allotments, about 100m along Rose Gardens, off Pope's Lane.

The group are keen to attract new growers from the immediate area and beyond. There will be seeds and plants to give away, a game of ‘guess the plant’, as well as cakes / biscuits and soft drinks. Click here to see Village Park allotment 14 Rose Gardens W5 4NT, South Ealing, on Google Maps.

Film Showing: Food, Inc.
– Sunday 12 September, 7.30pm, St. Mary's Church

We are showing Food, Inc., which lifts the veil on America's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer. The food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of farmers the safety of workers and the environment. The consequence is an epidemic of obesity, particularly among children, and of diabetes among adults.

Food, Inc. reveals surprising and often shocking truths about what we eat and how it is produced.

Free entry – donations welcome. Showing at St Mary’s Church, St Mary’s Road, Ealing W5 5RH (see on Google Maps). This is a joint event with Ealing Friends of The Earth who are linking it with their Food Chain campaign.

‘Growing Organically for the Future’
– Thursday 16 September, 7.30pm

Speaker: Bob Sherman, Director of Horticulture at Garden Organic (formerly Henry Doubleday Research Association)

“So many people feel powerless to tackle climate change, but what they misunderstand is that small things done by large numbers of people really can make a difference. Organic gardening is just one of those things – if we all grew a little of our own food, stopped spraying harmful chemicals on the land and respected the soil in which our food is grown – then we could all make an impact.” - Bob Sherman

Free entry – donations welcome. The event will be held in The Polygon, St Mary’s Church, St Mary’s Road, Ealing W5 5RH (see here on Google Maps). This is a joint event organised with West London Organic Gardening and Wildlife Association (WOWGA).
